Q4) An airplane heads due north at 100 m/s through a 30 m/s cross wind blowing from the east to the west. Determine the resultant velocity of the airplane (relative to due north). 



5) A man tries to row diretly across a river.He rows at a velocity of 3m/s. The river has a velocity 4m/s parallel to the banks.calculate the resultant velocity of the boat.

RESOLUTION OF VECTORS
Resolution of vectors means splitting/resolving a vector in to two perpendicular components .
It is the reverse process of finding resultant .

 

Horizontal component = F cos θ
 
Vertical Component = F Sin θ     where θ is the 

angle the vector F makes with the horizontal 

direction




Q8)A  javelin is thrown with a velocity 20m/s  at an angle of   45˚ to the horizontal.

a) What is the vertical component of this velocity?

Q9) a ball is kicked with a force of 120N  at 25˚

to the horizontal .
